The General Assembly of the International Tent Pegging Federation unanimously approved Turkey’s accession, as well as the hosting of numerous tournaments worldwide.

Members of the General Assembly of the International Tent Pegging Federation discussed various topics during the meeting held at the Morgan Hall at the Civil Aviation Club in Muscat, which would contribute to advancing the sport of tent pegging across different continents. The meeting was chaired by Mohammed bin Issa Al Fayruz, the President of the International Tent Pegging Federation, in the presence of representatives of member countries.
The General Assembly unanimously approved several decisions, including Turkey’s accession to the federation, unanimous voting on amendments to the sport’s rules, as well as the approval to host the World Cup Event in 2026, and the organization of several international events in various member countries, including youth, junior, masters, beach, women’s, military, university, traditional, friendship, and club championships
Russia applied to host two tournaments, one featuring traditional sports dress in the upcoming July and a friendship event in August, both unanimously approved. Furthermore, Pakistan’s request to host an under-21 youth event was endorsed. The Assembly also approved its previous meeting minutes, the 2023 Board of Directors report, and the 2023 financial report.
The General Assembly commenced with the announcement by Haitham bin Mohammed bin Jawad Al-Lawati, the Secretary-General of the Federation, of the meeting’s quorum completion. Mohammed bin Issa Al Ferooz, the President of the Federation, welcomed the attendees, expressing gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman, its leadership, and its people for hosting the Federation’s headquarters and for the government’s unwavering financial and moral support.
In early 2023, the Republic of Sudan hosted the qualification tournament for the fourth World Cup 2023 for Group D under the supervision of the International Tent Pegging Federation, with the participation of 6 countries (Sudan, Canada, India, Bahrain, Norway, South Africa), and both Sudan and India secured their spots.
On the sidelines of the tournament, international courses and workshops for judges and coaches (silver and gold badges) were held. Similarly, the Arab Republic of Egypt hosted in the same month the qualification tournament for the fourth World Cup for Group A under the supervision of the International Tent Pegging Federation, with the participation of teams from 6 countries (Arab Republic of Egypt, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, State of Palestine, Malaysia, United Kingdom), and both Egypt and Saudi Arabia were qualified.
In February, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan hosted the qualification tournament for Group C under the supervision of the International Tent Pegging Federation, with the participation of teams from 5 countries (Pakistan, Jordan, Iran, Belarus, Syria), and both Pakistan and Jordan were qualified. International courses and workshops for Judges and coaches (silver and gold badges) were also held.
Additionally, the Sultanate of Oman hosted in March the qualification tournament for Group B, under the supervision of the International Tent Pegging Federation, with the participation of teams from 5 countries (Sultanate of Oman, State of Kuwait, Republic of Yemen, Federal Republic of Germany, Republic of Iraq), and both Oman and Yemen were qualified. International courses and workshops for judges and coaches (silver and gold badges) were also held.
After the group qualifiers, eight teams, along with the host country, secured spots in the fourth World Cup 2023, including South Africa, Norway, the Republic of India, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Republic of Yemen
Here, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the countries that hosted the World Cup Qualifiers. Special gratitude is conveyed to South Africa, represented by its Equestrian and Tent Pegging Federation, for hosting the World Cup Event 2023. We congratulate Saudi Arabia on its well-deserved victory and crowning as the World Tent Pegging Champion in its fourth edition in 2023. Pakistan secured the second position, followed by India in third. On an individual level, we congratulate Saudi rider Hassan Aseeri for being awarded the Best Rider title, with Pakistani rider Irfan Watoo as the runner-up, and Saudi rider Abdulwahab Aseeri.
Regarding quality international tournaments, the Russian Federation hosted the second international tournament in July, featuring traditional sports dress, with the participation of eight countries (Russia, Kuwait, Qatar, Iran, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, Syria, and India).Congratulations to Team India for clinching the championship title, and to Indian rider Mohit Kumar for being awarded the Best Rider title. Additionally, international courses and workshops for judges and coaches were conducted, offering silver and gold badges.
In December, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the third international event, also in traditional sports dress, under the supervision of the International Tent Pegging Federation. Ten countries participated (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, South Africa, Iraq, Canada, Russia, Kuwait, and Jordan) with Oman securing the championship title. Congratulations to Iraqi rider Osama Liwa for being awarded the Best Rider title. Additionally, local coaching courses were held as well as, international courses and workshops for coaches offering bronze badges.
We take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all countries that hosted quality international tent pegging tournaments, contributing to the global spread and development of the sport. We also encourage member countries to take the initiative and host similar events.
As part of collaboration between international, continental, and regional federations, and on the sidelines of the International Federation’s celebration of World Tent Pegging Day on October 27 of each year and the completion of the first decade, the International Federation signed cooperation agreements with:
• Asian Equestrian Federation
• Eurasian Equestrian Association
• Qatar Equestrian Federation
Furthermore, the Federation organized various programs, activities, and events on this occasion, including a seminar for all tent pegging enthusiasts through video conferencing, attended by the President and members of the International Federation’s board of directors, with more than 500 participants. The discussions aimed to serve the interest of developing this sport.
